Overview
I had the opportunity to participate in “Digital Learners to Leaders” - an internship course offered at my school. My team of 5 and I were tasked with solving a problem on campus through technology. As students, all a part of the executive boards of organizations, we noticed an issue with a lack of community and increased feelings of loneliness especially after the pandemic. We felt more exposure to on campus organization, events, and activities could help with this problem.
Initial Research
-
User interviews: Conducted one-one Interviews with students ranging from upper to lower class-men, commuters and non-commuters, able-bodied, and disabled to get an analysis best suited to accommodate the entire student body. Also conducted interviews with members of the office of student involvement.
-
Surveys: Sent out survey links to classmates and posted QR code around campus to collect quantitative data from a larger sample of users.
-
Usability testing: Once initial prototypes were created, we conducted meetings for users to test out and identify any usability issues and give tips for the next iteration.
-
Competitive analysis: Analyzed strengths and weaknesses of competing social media/networking products

Identifying Key Pages and Features
After our initial research, we identified the key pages and features essential for Greenspace’s website. These included:
• Menu Bar: Easy navigation to all sections of the website.
• Explore Page: Allowing org. leaders to post events, stories, announcements, etc to students that follow them.
• Messages: Users would be able to contact with organizations and student leaders easily.
We chose these pages and features to ensure a comprehensive and engaging experience for our students and faculty.
Wireframing and Prototyping
Low Fidelity Sketches
-
Focus was on giving Georgia State students ways to connect professionally on campus
-
The aim was to combine social networking with “P.I.N” (the existing Georgia State website students use to join and host university events, organizations, etc).

Reiterated Design of Homepage
Home Page Iterations
-
During our Initial wireframing stages, there is a sidebar of the users friends they are connected to and the organizations they follow.
-
Users would be able to have a at a glance reminders widget of upcoming events they have RSPV’d to.
-
Users would be able to start a post, lives, etc.
-
Here we had a UI where users would be using using arrows to click to the next screen of posts, later we decided to show 1 post at a time so users would be able to scroll.
High Fidelity Wireframes
Sign in/Login Page
-
Students are able to sign in as 3 different types of profiles - Student, Organization, or Student Business.
-
Users would be able to login with their Student login information to mitigate security concerns
Messages
-
Users would able to communicate with other students and organization pages.
